The Chinese Embassy in Singapore on Saturday expressed strong dissatisfaction with local media reports alleging the UNC3886 group, believed to be behind recent cyberattacks in Singapore, is linked to China, citing claim of a cybersecurity firm of certain country. The embassy reiterated its firm opposition to such baseless smears.

Some Singapore media outlets, including The Straits Times, Lianhe Zaobao, and Channel NewsAsia, reported that Singapore’s critical information infrastructure has come under attack from cyber espionage group UNC3886. They cited a cybersecurity firm Mandiant as saying that UNC3886 is a China-linked cyber espionage group.

In response, a spokesperson for the Chinese Embassy in Singapore stated that China firmly opposes and cracks down on all forms of cyberattacks in accordance with the law, and will never encourage, support, or condone hacking activities.

In fact, China is one of the major victims of cyberattacks, the spokesperson said, adding that cybersecurity is a global challenge.

China stands ready to continue conducting cooperation with all parties including Singapore to jointly safeguard security in cyberspace, said the spokesperson.
