On April 28, 2025, Pike County learned that its third-party IT provider had experienced a ransomware attack. The County immediately launched an investigation with assistance from nationally recognized third-party cybersecurity and data forensics consultants. Through the investigation, we learned that an unauthorized actor accessed the IT provider’s network, which hosted County data, and removed County files. After we discovered our files had been taken, we notified federal law enforcement and began an extensive review of those files to determine what information may have been involved and who may have been affected. On July 7, 2025, we completed the review and began locating mailing addresses for individuals whose information was impacted to provide them with written notice of this incident.

To date, all affected individuals have been identified and located; with the required notifications being sent via the US Postal Service. In the coming days those individuals will receive a letter in the mail. This letter will outline the services that have been provided by the County to protect those affected. If you receive said letter, please use the information contained in it to assist you. If you did not receive a letter, this means that you were not identified in this data breach. If you believe that you may have been impacted but did not receive a letter, please reach out to us and we can get your information to our partners to make a proper determination.
