Tenable, the market leader in exposure management, announced its intention to acquire Tel Aviv-based Apex Security, a startup backed by Sam Altman (OpenAI) and Clem Delangue (Hugging Face).

This acquisition will expand Tenable’s leadership position as the industry’s first and most comprehensive exposure management platform and strengthen Tenable’s ability to help organisations identify and reduce cyber risk in a world increasingly shaped by artificial intelligence.

Generative AI is exploding, creating new risks such as shadow AI apps, AI-generated code, and synthetic identities. Organisations are struggling to secure both the AI they build and use.

Apex’s breakthrough tech will integrate directly into Tenable’s flagship exposure management platform, thereby empowering organisations to proactively reduce AI-generated exposure before attackers can exploit it.

This will be Tenable’s ninth acquisition since the company’s IPO in 2018. Previous acquisitions include Indegy for operational technology security in 2019; Alsid for identity exposure in 2021; Accurics for cloud security in 2021; Cymptom for attack path analysis in 2022; Bit Discovery for external attack surface management in 2022; Ermetic for cloud security in 2023; Eureka Security for data security posture management in 2024; and Vulcan Cyber for third-party security data integration in 2025.
