MONTANA – The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and the Maine Attorney General have notified the public about a cyber attack involving Lee Enterprises, which owns several newspapers in Montana, including the Gazette in Billings and the Missoulian.
Hackers caused a system outage in February, and an investigation launched by the company in May revealed that the hackers accessed personal information of 39,776 people. Despite the breach, there is currently no evidence of misuse of the data.
Lee Enterprises is collaborating with federal investigators to secure the affected individuals’ information. The company is committed to protecting those involved as the situation unfolds.
