Rail cybersecurity company Cylus and duagon, a vendor of communication, computing, and control technology for railway and embedded systems, announced on Monday a partnership to develop a seamlessly integrated technological solution that brings cybersecurity directly into the rolling stock network architecture. This collaboration combines duagon’s security gateway with Cylus’s rail-specific cybersecurity platform to deliver built-in protection, visibility, and control across onboard systems.
By combining CylusOne, a rail-specific cybersecurity platform, with the duagon D527 Multi-Ethernet Secure Gateway, rail operators now benefit from a compact and ruggedized solution that provides real-time threat detection, fleetwide visibility, and seamless regulatory compliance.
“As cybersecurity threats continue to grow in complexity and frequency, rail operators need a solution that is not only secure-by-design but tailored to the operational realities of modern rolling stock,” said Miki Shifman, Cylus CTO, “Our partnership with duagon delivers exactly that, a comprehensive, easy-to-deploy solution that protects critical onboard systems without compromising performance or operational continuity.”
duagon’s D527 offers a cybersecure, high-availability network interface equipped with multiple Ethernet ports and optimized for rolling stock environments. Featuring a security-hardened Linux kernel, the D527 gateway fully supports IEC 62443 requirements up to Security Level 2 (SL 2) and enables secure remote updates. The integrated firewall offers a design-time configurable packet filter, which can be locked for series production to ensure robust, long-term protection.
Leveraging container technology, the gateway allows for easy adaptation to customer-specific applications while maintaining system security and robustness. In addition, the secure gateway through CylusOne offers continuous network monitoring, real-time threat detection, and automated asset inventory, allowing rail operators to proactively manage onboard cybersecurity risks across their entire fleet. With CylusOne, rail operators gain centralized visibility and proactive defense without added complexity.
“With the D527, we at duagon show our commitment to making railway more secure and to address the challenges our customers face in deploying solutions at scale across a large number of platforms,” said Alexander von Allmen, Head of Business Line Embedded Products at duagon. “By integrating CylusOne, we can complement our product, offering a tailored solution to meet the customer’s needs.”
The integrated solution helps customers to comply with industry standards and regulations, including the TSA cybersecurity directives, NIS2, IEC 62443, and TS 50701, offering operators a future-proof path toward scalable and compliant cybersecurity for rolling stock networks.
