Retired four-star Army Gen. Paul M. Nakasone, former head of both U.S. Cyber Command and the National Security Agency, is scheduled to speak at a cybersecurity event in Frederick on September 18.

The keynote, hosted by techfrederick, a Frederick-based nonprofit focused on supporting the region’s tech community, will take place at New Spire Stages, 15 W. Patrick Street. The evening includes a reception followed by Nakasone’s presentation and a moderated Q&A, according to a community announcement.

Tickets were advertised at $75 to $100, with discounted rates available for techfrederick members. Sponsorships are also available.

The event is sponsored by Edgewater Federal Solutions, a Frederick-based IT services provider supporting federal government and national security missions.

Nakasone served as commander of U.S. Cyber Command and director of the NSA from 2018 to 2024, capping a more than 30-year military career. He is credited with helping build Cyber Command from the ground up and leading the nation’s top cyber units through a series of major security threats.

The evening begins at 5:30 p.m. with a reception featuring beer, wine and heavy appetizers. Nakasone’s talk is scheduled from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

Meghan Sweigart, executive director of techfrederick, said hosting Nakasone highlights the vital role that Frederick’s growing tech workforce plays in national cybersecurity efforts.
