Acumen Cyber’s Kevin Robertson on Cloud Security During Digital Transformation

Kevin Robertson, CTO and co-founder, Acumen Cyber

Organizations embracing digital transformation and cloud technologies to modernize operations often overlook cybersecurity until it’s too late. “Unfortunately, a lot of the organizations that we get involved in are 90% of the way down a digital transformation journey, but have not thought about the security part, and oftentimes that’s a bit of an afterthought,” said Kevin Robertson, CTO and co-founder of Acumen Cyber.

The root of the issue – especially with cloud security – is a fundamental misunderstanding of the shared responsibility model with cloud providers such as AWS, Google and Microsoft. “You are still on the hook for that,” he said, particularly when it comes to protecting data and ensuring regulatory compliance.

In this video interview with Information Security Media Group at Infosecurity Europe 2025, Robertson also discussed:

  • The skill gap in small IT teams tasked with cloud migration;
  • Who is responsible for leading digital transformation initiatives in an organization;
  • Building cybersecurity awareness across business departments.

Robertson has more than 15 years of experience in cyber defense, developed through leadership positions within the Ministry of Defence, the Royal Air Force and in securing critical national infrastructure in Qatar. He applies site reliability engineering principles to modern SOC design, emphasizing automation, continuous monitoring and iterative improvement for faster threat detection and response.
