The Maryland Department of Information Technology (DoIT) is actively monitoring a widespread cybersecurity disruption potentially affecting local government systems, including on-premises SharePoint servers. To assess exposure and coordinate a unified response across the state, DoIT is requesting urgent input from local governments.

As covered in a recent MACo blog, a newly discovered security flaw in Microsoft SharePoint has triggered a wave of cyberattacks targeting governments, universities, and private organizations, including multiple US federal and state agencies.

Action Requested:
Local governments must work with their executive and IT teams to complete a brief survey regarding their use of on-premise SharePoint Server by end of day Monday, July 21, 2025. This information will help DoIT guide statewide mitigation efforts and offer tailored support.

From the press release:

DoIT needs to measure potential exposure and to coordinate a whole-of-state approach to secure State of Maryland systems, services, and data. As the State’s Chief Information Security Officer, I ask that you fill out this short form regarding your jurisdiction’s use of on-premise SharePoint Server so that DoIT can provide the best support and guidance for your jurisdiction. Please work with the appropriate individuals at your organization to provide a single response to this form by end of day on Monday, July 21, 2025.
